Venous Stasis

Venous stasis is a loss of proper function in the leg veins that normally carry blood back toward the heart.

Causes

Venous stasis may occur after there is an injury to the veins. The veins in the legs may be varicose, causing them to be enlarged and appear as a cord or a bunch of grapes.

Symptoms

Individuals with venous stasis often complain of a feeling of fullness, aching or tiredness in their legs. These symptoms can become worse with standing.

Treatment

Rest, elevation and compression stockings are the most common forms of treatment.
